NBA News: Jalen Brunson Explains Why He Joined The Knicks

The New York Knicks finally found their point guard for the future. After years of struggles with subpar playmakers and heartbreaking seasons, they've found Jalen Brunson and locked him up for the next four years.

Brunson had a breakout season with the Dallas Mavericks and proved to be a legit scoring threat, but he'll have to take his game up a notch now that he's arrived in The Big Apple.

It Was All Business

Brunson was never looking to get paid as much as he did. He never even thought the process would come down to that. But when he saw the opportunity, he had to consider at least every offer he could get:

“Business came knocking on the door,” Brunson told J.J. Redick on“The Old Man And The Three,” with JJ Redick. “It was time to just at least look. I had to do my due diligence and look and see what was out there."He Envisioned Himself In Dallas

Brunson also said he never wanted to leave the Mavericks. He was happy in Dallas and actually told his father that he wanted to spend the rest of his career with Mark Cuban's team:

"People might not believe it," Brunson added. "I talked about it with my dad since year one or two, said, ‘Yeah, we’re going to be here for the rest of my career.’ That’s what I thought.”He's Unbothered By Criticism

The Knicks didn't allow that to happen. They made him a Godfather-like four-year, $ 104 million contract that was just too good to turn down.

Notably, that deal also prompted plenty of criticism and mockery around social media. Brunson is aware that people think he's overpaid, but that won't get in the way of his approach to the game:

“It’s impossible not to see it,” Brunson admitted. “Look, I’m honored I have gotten this opportunity, to be in that club making whatever number it is. But I think for me, no matter what the number is, nothing changes for me. The day of me agreeing to terms, signing, stuff like that, before I did any of that I got my work in. I’ve always been that way. I don’t plan on changing. It didn’t bother me. I’m going to be the same person no matter what happens, no matter what anyone says. I’m going to be me.”Knicks Could Land Another Star

Now that they locked in their main target, the Knicks are reportedly also trying to land Donovan Mitchell.

Mitchell, an NYC native and also quite close to Leon Rose, has recently been made available in trade talks by the Utah Jazz, although he never formally requested to be traded. So, don't sleep on the Knicks' potential backcourt, as they could give plenty to talk about for years to come.
